Frequently asked questions
How many sessions will I need?

Every student is different and has their own unique strengths and needs. After the initial diagnostic assessment I can indicate the likely timescales and number of sessions you (or your son/daughter) will need to achieve your goals.

How much work is there between sessions?

Every student has a different capacity to do work between the sessions and we'll decide together on the correct amount of extra work.

Can we do the sessions on a smartphone?

I use an online whiteboard for teaching and working through practice questions and papers. It's difficult to follow these on a small screen and so I strongly recommend using a laptop or a tablet.

What feedback does the parent get?

I'll email you after every session to confirm what's been covered and will send a summary report every four weeks.  I'll also send you a detailed report of scores and learning needs after each online monitoring assessment - roughly every 10 - 12 weeks. And of course I'll be happy to chat to you directly after each session to give feedback on how your son or daughter is progressing.

What happens if there are technical problems?

We'll schedule an initial session before the tutoring starts to test your network link and we'll only go ahead with the tuition if we're confident that there won't be any problems. In the unlikely event of problems at my end, we'll reschedule any lost time so that you're not impacted.

What happens if the student is sick?

Unfortunately everyone gets sick from time to time and sometimes you may need to cancel a session. If you cancel with less than 48 hours notice, then the session is still chargeable.

Do you offer any other subjects?

I focus on delivering the best possible maths tutoring from 11plus to GCSE, so I don't offer any other subjects.

Do you work with students anywhere?

As the service is online, I can support students anywhere in England - and potentially further afield.

Will I have the same tutor every session?

Yes, the tuition is delivered by David and so we'll get to know each other and build a positive student-tutor relationship.

Do you prefer any particular exam boards?

I help GCSE students prepare for their exams with all the major exam boards (e.g. AQA, OCR & Pearson Edexcel) and have access to a wide range or practice exam papers.

For Functional Skills, I support students taking their assessments with all the major awarding organisations including Pearson Edexcel, City & Guilds, NCFE, OCR, Open Awards & Highfield.

Do you offer face-to-face tutoring?

My standard service is online, but I do offer a small number of face-to-face sessions in Hertfordshire and Middlesex - including Watford, Garston, Bushey, Radlett, Rickmansworth, Kings Langley, Chorleywood, Stanmore, Elstree & Pinner.

Please note that the fees are slightly higher for face-to-face tuition and are available on request.

Do you cater for students with special needs?

I make all reasonable adjustments to cater for any student with special needs.

Please let me know of any special needs or requirements and I will do my best to allow for them.
